RESPOND TO THE QUESTIONS LISTED BELOW IN A SHORT ESSAY RESPONSE & ALSO TAKE THE TIME TO RESPOND TO SOME OF YOUR CLASSMATES IDEAS/ESSAYS... ASK QUESTIONS, DEBATE ISSUES... HAVE FUN!
In your life, have you ever had to contemplate things like:
Will someone blow up the bus I am about to get on?
What will it be like to have to go into the army?
Will they let my father out of prison?
Has my friend's father ever shot at me, or someone I love?
Will I ever be permitted to leave this place or return to my family's home?
What would this be like?
We must understand the past to know who we are and where we are going... on this web page you will find the daily class agenda, historical resources, and, as a class we will analyze historical events and discuss our thoughts on a variety of issues both in history and current events. You will be able to read your classmates comments, and respond to their thoughts and ask other questions regarding history that you may have.

History Quotes
We can learn from history how past generations thought and acted, how they responded to the demands of their time and how they solved their problems. We can learn by analogy, not by example, for our circumstances will always be different than theirs were. The main thing history can teach us is that human actions have consequences and that certain choices, once made, cannot be undone. They foreclose the possibility of making other choices and thus they determine future events.
-Gerda Lerner
History, we can confidently assert, is useful in the sense that art and music, poetry and flowers, religion and philosophy are useful. Without it -- as with these -- life would be poorer and meaner; without it we should be denied some of those intellectual and moral experiences which give meaning and richness to life. Surely it is no accident that the study of history has been the solace of many of the noblest minds of every generation.
-Henry Steele Commager
Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.

I have never had to think about those exact questions in my mind, but some like that. None of mine reach that high of intensity or aren't as severe. I am thankful I don't have to worry about the questions listed above, but I feel bad for the children and other people who do.
I, thankfully have never had to think anything so severe like that. On an Ice day I might wonder if the bus would spin out of conrtol, or if on a rainy day will the bus driver be able to see the road. If I had to think of stuff like that every day because of attacks or bombs blowing up, I would be scared to ride the bus. I would refuse to. I would ask my mom to drive me in.
I agree with you Ryan, you never really know what will happen. I feel really bad knowing those kids have to go through worse things then that.
I have never really had to worry about things like that in my life. I have worried about things that are on a lower scale like that, but I have never worried about things like that everyday of my life. If I am bored I will sometimes start thinking like that but normally I don't think about such things. I sometimes worry about things but I'm not thinking that the bus I'm getting on might have a terrorist and I could get blown up. It would be hard to live in a place where things like that were constantly on my mind and I feel bad for kids who do have to think like that.
Luckily, I have never have had to think something like that. I would die of fear with something like that always flying through the back of my mind. I hope I never have to join the army, but I would be afraid to battle on the front lines as I would not want to kill anywone, though I would call it murder, even though it is war. I would also be disturbed with the thoughts of my father being a political prisoner, even though he is just trying to eliminate the suppression of my people, as I would feel like I would be the one who was next to be imprisoned. If I lived in a plot of land that my forefathers also lived on, and then I was suddenly forced to live in a place that was not of the same, or even near, quality, I would be vengeful and fight until I could return.
To always be surrounded with such things is a thing that no one can truly and fully imagine unless they've experienced it. It is very likely that none of us has had to experience something like this where you become numb to the war that is taking place right in your neighborhood.
Thankfully I have never had to comtemplate anything even close to that. I can't imagine thinking those thoughts every day. I think I would get parinoid and go completely crazy!!!
I don't think that any of use has had such extreme thoughts run through out minds, but I do think that we have thought of such things on a lower scale. I can't imagine how hard it would be for those poor kids who would have to live everyday knowing that there might be a possiblity that their friends, family, or themselves could get severely injured just by riding the bus. I personally would get very paranoid, like Amy said...or even get depressed just knowing that anyday, I could lose someone.
I don't think anyone should have to live under those conditions, and even at such a young age, realize what's going on in your surroundings. I am thankful, like everyone else that posted, that we don't have such extreme situations like the kids did in the video...but I do feel sorrow for them, as well.
Omg- I have never in my whole life had to even think about this!! I can't even imagine what it would be like!! I feel awful that they have to go through that every single day! I'm so thankful that I have not and probably never will.
I have personally never thought about this and I hope that I never have to either. I think that this would be a terrible life to have. You would live in a world of fear and could never trust anyone. I think that it would be terrible to have to worry about things like this and at a young age, have to watch out for any suspicious looking people. When your a child, you should not have to worry about this, even as an adult you should never have to worry about this.
i have never had to worry about any of those things because i am fortunate enough to live in a safe place where there are no bus explosions or shootings. i cant even imagine what it would be like to live in israel and constantly being worried about the bus i am on blowing up or someone shooting a person that i care about. for that reason i am thankful to live in america
I haven't had to think about about those questions before. I have thought about what it would be like to have to constantly think about those types of questions, like if I lived in an area of conflict. It would be a stressful life.
oops that anoymous one above was mine
I personally have never had to think about things like that no. I am very thankfull for that. However, my dad has had to think of some things like that. (sort of) At least, he's had to think, what would it be like if he had to leave the military? Now he knows....
Sam, do u always write uber long comments?
No, I have never had to weary about things like that. If I had to think about it everyday and watch out for everybody I would be scared and I would act different.
Eric
No, I myself have never had to think about those questions. But, I sometimes think about being in the shoes of those kids and having to think about them constantly. Sure if I see a freaky man get on a public bus with me or something I might feel a little cautious but I would never wonder if he was hiding a bomb under his coat or something.
Luckily, I have never had to contemplate things like that. But what scares me right now is that with all of the conflict going on in the middle east, I can't help to wonder if their would be another terrorist attack in our country. I only hope that the conflict is resolved soon so those kids can finally feel safe in their neighborhoods and schools.
I agree with Maria. We have never had to worry about things like that but we are still a little suspicious of other people, but not of the fears that people in the middle east might have.
For some reason whenever i am in a highly populated city i always have the feeling that im in danger, sometimes because im the outcast. I have been thinking about situations about if id have to join the army, all I feel I can say is I hope I don't have to join. Sadly, there have been times of my life when I wonder when my dad would get out of prison. The bad news is that it has happened on numerous occasions, the good news is that it has been almost 6 years since I can remember that happening. Im sure that my friends fathers have shot at me one time or another, but my memory can't recall an exact occasion. Once again, I have had times where I had to be contained and kept away from my home. But thats all in next weeks episode of the Brady Bunch. Stay Tuned!!
I have never had to even come close to thinking about those questions. It really must be absolutley dreadful to have to go through constant fear of somebody killing you or a family member or taking away something that means so much to you.
I personally have never actually thought about any of those things! Sometimes I will find myself wondering if I had been (for ex.) on the 35W bridge... but that was just one time. I feel really bad for those who deal with those questions on a daily baisis. I hope I never have to deal with any of that!
To be contently thinking about these things would be living in fear. It would be very hard to be independent, because if you go anywhere alone, there is a greater chance of you being killed. There would be almost nothing you could do with out looking around you and fearing every person who passed. You couldn't let you guard down ever or trust anyone. Trust someone one day, and they could turn on you the next.
Yeah, I'm thankful that I can feel safe in my everyday life, but sometimes my imagination runs away with me and my worries get a little extreme!=]
I have never had to worry about things that extreme or had even imagined anything like that happening to me. I feel so bad for the kids that have to think about it every day! I catch myself complaining about things way less serious and stop as soon as I realize that I'm doing it because I don't have anything to worry or complain about as much as the kids in the Middle East do. I think that if I had to live like that I would be so scared.
This is Brittany B.
Today I do think about what if someone brought a gun to school today. Now that stuff like this happens more and more it runs through mind more and more. I never really think it will ever happen to me personally (which i hope it doesn't). I feel really bad for the kids that have to worry about whether there relitives are going to die because of dieses they get from horrible working conditions.
